The Impact of the University's Environmental Sustainability Strategy on the Continuous Improvement of the Overall University Performance: An Exploratory Study on a Sample of Basra University Teachers
Abstract
Universities are the driving force for sustainable development and improving the performance of the national economy. The modern university orientation is to work on the continuity of pumping university outputs that are beneficial to the society in general. This requires achieving the environmental sustainability of the university through the interrelationships between it and the environmental, social and economic dimensions of society in general, this relationship cannot be achieved by the university leadership only. But with the participation of all stakeholders from inside and outside the university, As well as the need to integrate the requirements of environmental sustainability, and the needs of continuous improvement of the university in all its activities, Therefore, a comprehensive university environmental sustainability strategy should be developed, This strategy focuses on its orientations and components, On the goals and practices that ensure the preservation of the green university, Through comprehensive strategic planning and development of implementation tools and mechanisms that enable the university to pursue successive environmental changes, In order to ensure a full and effective response to the continuous improvement of university performance, The research adopted a hypothesis that (there is a statistically significant effect of the university environmental sustainability strategy on the continuous improvement of the overall university performance), The University of Basra was chosen as a field of study, because it is one of the strategic universities in Iraq, and it includes a group of teaching competencies with extensive experience and knowledge, The sample consisted of all the teachers which The study population includes, they have the most theoretical and field knowledge of the sustainable university environment. For the purpose of data collection, the research used a checklist that reveals in its questions the impact that the environmental sustainability strategy on continuous improvement of the overall performance of the university The results showed the possibility of developing an environmental sustainability strategy that would contribute to improving the overall university performance.
